New Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lipstick- Review

I have been loving the whole trend of matte lipsticks, lip stains and liquid lipsticks, so when I received these I was so excited. Let me start by disclosing that these products were sent to me for review, but all opinions are my own and this is not a sponsored post. I received the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid lipsticks almost a month ago, but I held off on reviewing them because I really wanted to test them before sharing my opinion.

I was sent the colors Nude Flush – 10 and Rebel Red – 35. Here is what they look like:

Claims: The first issue I have is that this product is labeled as “Matte” and it does not dry matte at all like other liquid lipsticks do. It actually has a lot of shine and feel very moist on the lips. The advertising insert that came with the lipsticks says that you can blot your lips with a tissue to achieve a more matte look, but isn’t that true with all lipsticks? If you are hoping for a true matte, you will be disappointed.

I tried to get a picture outside to show how shiny the finish is. A car selfie was the best I could do. But You can see that it almost looks like I have lip gloss on, which I don't.

Color: The colors are beautiful. I have no complaints here. The payoff is amazing and you don’t need more than a couple of swipes to achieve a flawless look. The colors are also pretty true to what you see in the packaging and that makes it easy to choose at the drugstore when you can’t try them on.

The Rebel Red dries a bit more matte than the nude, but still not completely matte.

Packaging: I like their dofer applicator as they’re a bit longer than usual and just flexible enough to allow precision, but also be easy enough to maneuver. I also love that the rim is pretty big and allows enough product to come out. It’s a pet peeve of mine when the rim of a tube is so small that it squeezes all the product off. With this one you have all the control and can simply remove the excess product by rubbing the applicator wand against the rim.

Smell: This is my biggest complain about this product. It smells SO strongly of perfume. I am pretty sensitive and allergic to smells as it is, so please take that in consideration, but these seriously have a VERY strong smell. And it’s not a light scent like the MAC lipsticks that have that subtle vanilla hint. It’s a powerful PERFUME scent that you can actually smell not only on the tube, but also after you apply on the lips.

Consistency: The product is creamy enough and it does not feel drying on the lips at all, which I love.

Lasting power: The lasting power is pretty average. As I’ve mentioned, they don’t dry out to be matte, so they fade much easier than a regular lip stain or liquid lipstick.

Overall: After testing these out for a month, I am sad to say that I would NOT repurchase this product. I just can’t get over the perfume smell. I like the finish, the consistency, the fair price, the colors and it doesn’t even bother me that it doesn’t live up to the true matte claim, but the smell I just can’t get over. Perhaps if you are not as sensitive to smells you would enjoy this line, but it’s definitely not my favorite.

I hope this was helpful! Thanks for reading, guys!
