I’ve wanted to start a blog for a while. You know when people say, “Do what you love and you won’t have to work a day in your life?” Well, writing is one of those things that I would do for free. And that’s why I picked writing as my minor at when I attended the University of Central Florida to get my bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Public Relations.
When I was in college I was always the annoying student that celebrated when the professor assigned a 10-page paper and the friend that everyone asked for help from to proofread their work. Not because I know everything about grammar, but because I sure would love to know everything about it. So, if I am unsure about a writing rule, I will not rest until I find an answer to my question. I know… weirdo, nerd, grammar Nazi, bla bla! But I should remind you that English is not my first language, so I guess the obsession with learning proper English stems from being teased every time I pronounced a word incorrectly or told people I never read Dr. Seuss, or even knew what that was, to be more precise.
When I started looking for a job, it wasn’t different. I looked for any jobs that had “creative” and “heavy writing” combined. I now work with social media, PR and marketing and part of my job includes writing blogs. My week is somehow divided into different tasks for each day and Thursdays are blog-writing days. Needless to say, Thursdays are my favorite day! I write three blog posts a week, so ever since starting my job a year ago, I’ve written more than one hundred blog posts on various subjects.
I work for a hotel management company in Orlando, Florida, meaning the blog posts are usually restricted to our amazing theme parks, seasonal events, packing tips and hospitality-related topics. And although I enjoy writing about mostly anything, I just figured why not start my own blog where I can write about the things that are truly my passion? Well, my lack of free time would be my favorite excuse. But, again, that’s only an excuse. So, here we are. Welcome to my blog!
Now that you are here, you are probably wondering what I am passionate about and what to expect from this blog. So here is the gist: makeup, CrossFit, travel and social media/PR topics.
I don’t get to travel much, but since #ILiveWhereYouVacation you can probably expect some theme park posts. My main goal for 2016 is to save money to travel, so this “not traveling much” is about to change, folks. The end of 2016 is when I plan to take a major trip, so for now I’ll probably just write about the places I have been or the places on my bucket list. Since I am from Brazil and often get several questions about traveling there, you might see some of that here, too!
I have an endless supply of makeup. I could probably go 10 more years without ever having to buy a new eye shadow or lipstick and still not run out of them. I love trying new products but since I am trying to save money for my travels, I’ve made a point to only buy makeup if I run out of something like foundation or mascara, for example. I’ll have to resist the urge to try the new formula, shade or revolutionary skin product and learn to get by with the products I already have.
Now, please don’t laugh. I LOVE CrossFit and I have been doing it for a year, but I am not at all capable of writing anything but my own experience when it comes to this. My boyfriend is a CrossFit coach, and a great athlete, so you’ll definitely see some posts of this nature here as he is a contributor of this blog. Even though I am the last one in the class to finish a WOD, I still persevere and love doing it. And that gives me the right to write about it if I want to. BOOM! That’s exactly the kind of freedom of speech writing I was taking about when I said that just writing blog posts for work is way too restrictive.
I have a degree in advertising and public relations and have been working in the field for about two years, so I have a bit of experience that I can share with you if you are interested. Part of my job at work is actually working with bloggers, as I am their point of contact at the hotels that are managed by my company. So I am kind of at the other end of the spectrum when it comes to knowing about the rules of blogger/businesses partnerships and I love that part of my job!
So, there you have it! If you read this post all the way through, and you are not my mom- because I know she’ll be my first reader (Hi mom), than thanks for stopping by! Leave a comment down below and check out my social channels so we can connect!
